Running On Empty And Running Out Of Options
Serving as a critical component of the safety net for our frail elderly and disabled population, Virginia’s nursing facilities provide round-the-clock care to the sickest of the sick and often to those who have run out of options. Over 60 percent of residents living in the Commonwealth’s nursing homes have exhausted their financial resources and have no where to turn but to state-funded Medicaid to provide for their care.
Medicaid payments to nursing facilities that historically fail to cover the cost of care were cut $47 million in the last two years and now are facing additional cuts of over $50 million. Shifting budget problems to already underfunded health care providers is no way to balance Virginia’s budget. TALK TO YOUR LEGISLATORS NOW! Learn more here.
