Your survey could be your biggest worry of the year, or you could build a strong foundation of integrated systems to set your facility up for success. Keeping an eye toward changes in regulations, standards of care, and compliance can promote a dynamic quality improvement philosophy at your center. With the right knowledge and tools you can keep ahead of survey risks and implement sustainable systems to achieve positive outcomes for your residents, high satisfaction rates, and survey compliance.

This full-day program will include an overview of trends in the survey process from Virginia’s Director of Long Term Care as well as a detailed analysis of data captured from deficiency reports conducted in 2015 in VHCA’s SMART (Survey Management and Analysis Resource Tool) Program. At the seminar you can learn how to minimize risks prior to and during a long term care survey at your center.

This program will also leave you with a thorough understanding of the legal implications, process, and considerations of a poor survey. Upon receipt of a poor survey, all facilities are faced with a tight timeline and difficult decisions regarding filing a plan of correction and potentially requesting an informal dispute resolution. Learn what you need to consider throughout this process, including the legal ramifications that vary based on the level of citations.

The program will conclude with a panel of experts who will share practical guidance on how to manage and motivate your staff before, during, and after a survey.

Program Objectives

Following the program, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify trends, patterns, and justifications for the top deficiencies cited in Virginia in 2015.
  • List strategies for determining reasonableness for requesting and preparing for an informal dispute resolution (IDR).
  • Explain operational and legal perspectives for successfully managing the survey process.
  • Identify operational approaches for ensuring staff consistency with survey compliance.
  • Describe approaches to leading staff before, during, and after a survey.
  • Understand what options you have under the new Medicare and Medicaid overpayment reporting laws.
