Mr. Elmer Hetterick, 88 years old, was born and grew up in Norfolk, Virginia. Later when he was out of school, he enlisted in the Navy in 1940 and eventually was stationed at Pearl Harbor. He was part of a fighter crew that flew missions against the Japanese fighter planes. Mr. Hetterick was decorated for his actions at Midway, Coral Sea and Guatemala Canal.
In his spare time, Mr. Hetterick is an artist and his drawings are displayed throughout the facility where he resides.
Mr. Hetterick is a resident at Sentara Village – Norfolk where he has resided since September 2010.
