Mr. Marvis Jones, 90 years old, was born and raised in Gates, North Carolina where he grew up on a farm.
He joined the Army during World War II and was stationed out of Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was sent to Europe and spent several years as a Squad Leader leading a platoon of infantry men. One battle that he vividly remembers was when his troops faced the Germans in the Alps Mountains. He proudly reports that his men fought the Germans bravely and successfully backed them down the mountain until the enemy retreated. Mr. Jones was awarded the Gold Star Medal for Bravery. After six years of service, he returned home to farm and raised a family. Mr. Jones is a true war hero and honored veteran.
Mr. Jones is a resident at Sentara Village - Virginia Beach where he has resided since August 2006.
