Who's Who in Virginia's Long Term Care Facilities
Ms. Shirley Kyllo
- Back
Ms. Shirley Kyllo, 82 years old, was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa. At the age of 21 she married a young man studying to be in the ministry. Her life as a minister’s wife allowed her to live in eight different states and raise three children. Their last parish took her and her husband to Washington State to the Yakama Indian Nation Reservation to serve and live for seven years. She shared her love of art with the Yakama people. An exceptional piece Ms. Kyllo is proud of is a six-foot teepee she painted with original medallion symbols to be used and displayed for a celebration. The Yakama Museum still displays some of her works today. For her contributions, she was presented with original works of jewelry from the tribe. Ms. Kyllo’s motto was children first, ministry second, and art third.
Ms. Shirley Kyllo is a resident at Riverside Convalescent Center - Smithfield where she has resided since October 2010.
