Mr. Earl Lemmond, 92 years old, who has earned celebrity status among music lovers young and old has played the saxophone since his early teen years. He remembers his mom banishing him to the attic in their Eastabrook home where he taught himself to play. Mr. Lemmond remembers practicing and playing until his lips were bleeding. He has a gift for music that took him around the world and back in his 92 years. He often plays for residents at the facility where he resides. Mr. Lemmond played and traveled with Bob Hope in USO shows. In 1939, he remembers “blowing” with Count Basie and meeting Glenn Miller. He played with Buddy Rogers and Carl Cabby. He also played with Lawrence Welk in South Dakota. Mr. Lemmond retired from the Naval Air Station in the 1950s as an electronics technician.
Mr. Earl Lemmond is a resident at Sentara Village – Chesapeake where he has resided since July 2010.
