Major Helen Padgett

Major Helen Padgett, 84 years old, is a Virginia native and served as
a Salvation Army officer for 42 years before retiring in 1987. During
her tenure, she served faithfully in Salvation Army commands in West
Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina and South Carolina. She
also served in several headquarter positions and as a faculty member at
The Salvation Army School for Officers’ Training.
Major Padgett contributed to the community by helping the needy find a new and better life. She also helped restore hope to those who experienced a disaster. Many of those who she influenced look upon her as a spiritual leader, spiritual counselor and friend.
While serving in Sumter, South Carolina, Major Padgett received commendation for her dedication to building The Salvation Army church, helping the needy, raising funds and doing excellent work in community relations.
Major Padgett is a resident at Friendship Retirement Community – Eastwood Assisted Living in Roanoke where she has resided since July 2002.
