Ms. Faye Glenn Abdellah

Ms. Faye Glenn Abdellah, 91 years old, knew early on she wanted to
learn nursing after witnessing the Hindenburg explosion over Lakehurst,
New Jersey.
She earned a nursing diploma from Fitkin Memorial Hospital's School of Nursing and three degrees from Columbia University: a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, a Master of Arts degree in Physiology and a Doctor of Education degree.
Ms. Abdellah, Professor and Founding Dean Emerita, Graduate School of Nursing, at the Defense Department's University in Bethesda, Maryland, is globally recognized as a national pioneer in nursing, nursing research, mental retardation, home health services, aging, hospice and AIDS.
In 1949 she joined the US Public Health Services and served as the Chief Nurse Officer and Deputy Surgeon General of the US from 1981 until her retirement in 1989. Many national health policies, including, Federal training programs for health services researchers and geriatric nurse practitioners, were initiated by Dr. Abdellah.
Dr. Faye Glenn Abdellah is now a resident at the Arleigh Burke Pavilion in Manassas where she has resided since May 2008.
