Ms. Marian Voorhees, 97 years old, is an ambitious woman who has a love for aviation. At 85, she went on a cruise with her family and during that trip she signed up for both a helicopter and plane ride excursion all in the same day. Aside from flying in planes, she also had a desire to parachute from a plane. When she was 90 years old her granddaughter gave her a skydiving gift. According to Ms. Voorhees, she was not afraid and loved it. She had not told her son about the adventure until after the skydiving was over. It wasn't until a visit to her home that she showed her son a photo album filled with photos of the skydiving event. Her son states she informed him that landing was like jumping off the kitchen counter. Ms. Voorhees had hoped to go skydiving again but health issues prevented her from being able to do so. She loved the skydiving and said it was a wonderful experience.
Ms. Marian Voorhees is a resident at Friendship Retirement Community in Roanoke where she has resided since May 2007.
