Mrs. Phyllis Jones

Mrs. Phyllis Jones, 86 years old, attended Penn State University in
State College, Pennsylvania in 1941 and majored in engineering. In 1944,
during World War II, the United Aircraft Corporation selected 40 women
to receive a scholarship to work for Hamilton Standard Propeller in
Hartford, Connecticut. Ms. Jones was one of the 40 selected for the
prestigious scholarship. Their job was to design propellers for
aircrafts used during the war. The company was the leader in producing
aircraft propellers.
She worked with the company from 1944 to 1946. She then completed her Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. After graduation she married and later went on to pursue a Master’s degree in Education from Old Dominion University. She taught government for 22 years at First Colonial High School. Mrs. Jones is proud to have served her country and proud of her four children.
Mrs. Jones is a resident at Seaside Health Center in Virginia Beach where she has resided since August 2006.
