Ms. Frances Wash, 86 years old, was born in Kentucky and moved to San Francisco with her family where she attended St. Joseph College of Nursing in California right after high school.
Ms. Wash spent 40 years in nursing specializing in labor and delivery. She recalls one unique delivery where the mom-to-be showed up at the hospital in labor and Ms. Wash met her at the door and took her to an elevator to go to the delivery floor. It turned out that the baby had other plans and didn’t want to wait to go to the delivery floor and ended up being born on the way up! She said he just popped out and when the doors opened she was standing there holding a baby!
Ms. Wash is a resident at Sentara Nursing Center - Norfolk where she has resided since August 2007.
