Ms. Betty June Willis, 80 years old, was born in West Virginia and grew up in a family that sang all the time.
While in high school Ms. Willis was allowed to leave early to go to her job in town – singing on the local radio! Sometimes she’d even bring a couple of friends and do a trio. She said, “They paid me, so I said what the heck, I’ll sing on the radio!”
Ms. Willis later married and raised three children, one boy and two girls. She proudly talks of her son giving his life in the Vietnam War for freedom and says that it just about killed her when he was gone.
She still enjoys singing to the staff, visitors and her friends at Sentara. If Ms. Willis sees you walking down the hall she just might break out in the tune “Hey Good Lookin, Whatcha got cookin’?”
Ms. Willis is a resident at Sentara Nursing Center – Norfolk where she has resided since August 2009.
