Master Sergeant Clyde Hart,Master Sergeant Clyde Hart, 80 years old, enlisted in the Army upon graduating from high school.

While serving stateside, Mr. Hart held the job of Post Engineer. He also served a tour of duty in Vietnam where he was recognized for direct service to the war effort as well as service to the soldiers. He helped maintain the morale of the troops by promoting activities.

Mr. Hart played football for the Army. He also played for the New York Giants and has the distinction of being one of the first African Americans to play professional football.

Later on he became a Virginia State Correctional Officer where he worked mostly with young boys. Mr. Hart was a positive and strong influence in many of the boys’ lives. He contributed immensely in helping them find the right path in life, and his work is well documented in many letters of commendation from his superiors relating to his compassion, dedication and understanding of these young men.

Master Sergeant Clyde Hart is a resident at Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center in Richmond where he has resided since October 2008.
