Who's Who in Virginia's Long Term Care Facilities
Mr. Gerald Gilliam
- Back
Mr.
Gerald Gilliam, 70 years old, has always been interested in local
history, travel and photography. He was introduced to genealogy in
college and this culminated all his interests together. After college,
he became a history teacher which allowed him free summers to pursue his
love for travel. He traveled to courthouses for research and took photos
of old, historic buildings. Later he was hired as a history teacher in
an international school in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He completed one year
of classroom instruction and then spent the next five months traveling
and photographing new sights.
Returning to the United States, he and three of his friends began a local history publication called The Southsider. It ran for over 25 years. He volunteers daily at the local museum and plans and designs displays involving local history. He continues to be involved in the community teaching classes and hosting slide presentations from the 48 states he has traveled to. He presents these slide shows throughout the community and during activity times at Somerset. He has an amazing antique collection and also offers to host small antique shows at Somerset for our residents.
Mr. Gerald Gilliam is a resident at Somerset in South Boston where he has resided since July 2006.
