Overview:
This two-day, 12-hour workshop is designed to provide program coordinators, primary instructors and in-service staff of Nurse Aide Education Programs with program planning skills such as writing measurable learning objectives, organizing curriculum, developing lesson plans, and evaluating learning. Participants will have an opportunity to observe, practice, and critique a variety of instructional strategies.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this learning experience, participants will be able to:
- Discuss characteristics of the adult learner;
- Identify principles and techniques of training needs assessment;
- Identify responsibilities of the trainer of nursing assistants;
- Write learning objectives;
- Describe a logical organizational plan for teaching;
- Identify factors conducive to adult learning;
- Select teaching methods and media;
- List advantages/disadvantages of selected methods of classroom evaluation;
- Distinguish between effective and ineffective evaluation techniques; and
- Prepare and present an instructional component.
Who Should Attend:
All persons responsible for long term care nursing staff in-service and nurse aide training, including In-Service Directors and Coordinators; Directors of Nursing Service and Assistants; and Nursing Instructors.
Presenter:
- Delores C. Darnell, RN, NHA, PhD (c)
Ms. Darnell is the Central Virginia Director of Clinical Services with Consulate Health Care and the former Executive Director of the Certified Nursing Facility Education Initiative. Following her career as a staff nurse and Director of Nursing, she served as Administrator at two of Virginia’s nursing facilities, one of which housed a licensed assisted living facility. Ms. Darnell develops and presents education curricula in long term care settings. Her research interests are in organizational leadership and quality of care. She has been recognized for her leadership in long term care and as the instructor of the VHCA’s “Train the Trainer” for Instructors of Registered Medication Aides.

Continuing Education:
NAB Certified Sponsor - 12 hours of continuing education
Virginia Health Care Association is a Certified Sponsor of professional
continuing education with the National Association of Boards of
Examiners of Long Term Care Administrators (NAB). This educational
offering has been reviewed by the National Continuing Education Review
Service (NCERS) of the National Association of Boards of Examiners of
Long Term Care Administrators (NAB) and approved for 12 clock hours and
12 participant hours. State licensure boards, however, have final
authority on the acceptance of individual courses.
Cancellation Policy:
Cancellations for credit card payments are subject to a 10% service fee. All other cancellations that are received in writing by Tuesday, February 23, 2010 will receive a full refund. Cancellations received after the registration deadline but no later than three working days prior to the program will receive a refund of one-half the cost of registration. No refunds will be granted if cancellation is received after the three day deadline. Substitute registrations are always welcome. Seating is limited. To guarantee your place include full payment with registration. Payment for non-members is due with registration.
