April Payne will review the recent activities of the VCAL Committee. She will also provide an update on DSS initiatives, explain issues affecting CBD dispensing, and describe the impact of assisted living-specific legislation under consideration by the General Assembly.

As more complaints are filed against nursing facilities and assisted living facilities, the panel will explore how complaints are resolved, as well as how abuse, neglect, and exploitation reports are handled by examining actual scenarios. Panelists will review how and when providers should report incidents as well as explore enforcement actions versus protective measures.

The Legislative Conference is timed to give you the opportunity to meet with your delegate and senator in the General Assembly while they are in session. Following a briefing from the VHCA-VCAL lobbying team, the agenda includes time for your visit their offices to discuss priorities like Medicaid reimbursement and legislation affecting nursing care centers and assisted living communities. 

We recommend that you try to schedule your appointments in advance for a time between 10:00 – 11:30 am on February 4, 2020. Use Who’s My Legislator to find their contact information. General Assembly members’ offices are located in the Pocahontas Building at 900 E. Main Street in Richmond, just 3 blocks from the Omni Richmond Hotel.
