Clara Giles, 62
Originally from Southampton County and raised in Newport News, Clara was the youngest of five children. She experienced the loss of her mother when she was just nine years old and was raised by her father. She poured her energy into sports as she grew up playing football, softball, and basketball. She also enjoyed cheerleading.
In the neighborhood where she raised her own family, Clara became known as the “cool mother figure”. She was always welcoming others into her home and ensuring everyone was fed and cared for. Before long, the community affectionately called her “Mama Clara”. With her warm infectious smile, she made friends wherever she went. Her family remembers her endlessly giving, kind and gifted with a beautiful voice.
Since joining us at Rehab Warwick Forest, Clara has continued to brighten our Piedmont memory care unit. She supports her peers, stays actively involved in recreation therapy and daily events. She is always looking for ways to help and share with those around her—frequently offering anything she has to others. Her favorite activities include watching Family Feud, cooking and baking, dancing, listening to music, and singing. Clara enjoys staying up late to watch her favorite 90s movies, visiting with family, and going on outings with her Piedmont Pals. Her smile still lights up any room she’s in and she’s still a friend to all she meets. Anyone who enters her presence leaves with a smile and a happy heart.
