Erik Fernandez, 63
Erik grew up in Michigan and later moved across the country to attend college in California, where he discovered a lifelong passion for engineering. That passion carried him through graduate school and ultimately to the University of Virginia, where he spent 22 years as a chemical engineering professor.
Today, Erik continues to inspire everyone around him—staff and residents alike. No matter how he is feeling, he greets each day with a warm smile and a willingness to help wherever he can. His strong faith shines through in all that he does, including leading Bible study for his fellow residents.
Beyond that, Erik takes the time to welcome new residents and visits others simply to brighten their day. He truly embodies the saying, “Bloom where you are planted.” His grace, positivity, and unwavering faith remind us daily of the strength of the human spirit.
