Betty StroopMrs. Betty Stroop is from the beautiful Shenandoah Valley and was raised in Weyers Cave. When you ask Ms. Stroop what she likes to do, it’s clear she likes being busy! She was the pianist at Bethany United Methodist Church for over 50 years and worked part time for Harrisonburg Auto Auction. She then worked full time at the Blue Ridge Community College for 19 years.

She has been a resident of St. Mary’s Woods for eight years. She helps put the Daily Board together and delivers them to different areas of the building. She plays the piano for mass and memorial services. Ms. Stroop leads and assists with games. She organizes the team to fold and prepare the residents newsletter (over 325 copies). Ms. Stroop also cuts coupons every month to be sent to military families in Europe and helps prepare the art instructor for classes.

Mrs. Stroop participates in the Yarn Club and makes multiple items to be given to school children or hospital nurseries. She continues to make blankets for the RVA Comfort Cases, which are put into backpacks for children. She is an active participant in the ceramic class making bowls used in the Empty Bowl fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association. She is known as the official glazer in this class. She is such a gem to St. Mary’s Woods.
