Winona Sweet The granddaughter of two Indian chiefs, Princess Winona Stevens Sweet is a member of the Rosebud Sioux tribe. Growing up in Cecil County, Maryland, Princess Winona was known in her community for her good works and loving protection of children. In 1990, Princess Winona was inducted into the American Indian Hall of Fame as one of only two living inductees. She now stands alongside other distinguished Native Americans like Jim Thorpe, Sitting Bull, and Geronimo recognized for their contributions and place in American history.

Along with her husband, Francis Grey Elk Sweet, Princess Winona helped lead her people toward self-sufficiency by training children in their heritage, culture, crafts, cooking, drumming, dancing, basketry, protocol, and tradition.

Today Princess Winona still shows her caring and loving spirit at The Landmark Center. Quite often you can catch her singing her native songs, wearing her tribal jewelry, and showing her concern for her fellow residents.
