Stella Nelson, 96
Music has always been a part of Stella Nelson’s life. One day during a piano lesson with her jazz musician instructor, he mentioned that his band would be performing at Carnegie Hall and asked if she would play a solo. Stella replied and said, “I don’t jazz,” to which he replied, “That’s okay, we’d love to hear something more classic.” Delighted by the opportunity, Stella eagerly accepted. When the day arrived, she stepped onto the legendary Carnegie Hall stage and performed Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. It’s a moment she will never forget.
Now 96 years young, Ms. Nelson continues to bring joy to those around her at Heritage Hall. She stays active, participates in daily activities, and still graces the in-house piano with her beautiful playing. On occasion, she even joins the live entertainers for an impromptu duet.
