As part of its annual review of state assisted living regulations, NCAL issued the 2018 edition of “Assisted Living State Regulatory Review.” The report found that the most common changes to state regulations were in the area of staffing, such as additional training requirements and expanded background check requirements. 

The Virginia-specific review noted that the Commonwealth made comprehensive revisions to its standards for assisted living facilities that took effect on February 1, 2018.  The report also noted other minor legislation affecting assisted living passed by the General Assembly.
