Event Overview
Greg O’Brien, an award-winning investigative journalist and author, will open the symposium as he candidly discusses his experience with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. O’Brien has been chronicling his experience with the disease to help others know what to expect. He will discuss key moments in his journey that reveal the ways in which this disease affects entire families and the emotional toll it takes on both the people living with the disease and their loved ones. With candor and humor, O’Brien will allow us to peer into his experience and feel the impact of Alzheimer’s disease.
Other featured speakers and topics include:
- An update from the Department of Social Services (DSS) Adult Licensing Division and review of the top 10 assisted living facility deficiencies

- NCAL’s Rachel Reeves will provide an update on NCAL’s workforce and social media initiatives
- Pam Doshier of The Orchard, an AHCA/NCAL Silver-Achievement in Quality Award winner, will share how the process of applying for a quality award can have a positive impact on your community beyond the award itself.
