Ask Republican Members of Congress to Protect Medicaid
What’s happening: Congressional committees are developing legislation based on the federal budget resolution passed in April. Now is a critical time to ensure Medicaid is not cut since it covers essential long term services and supports for seniors and individuals with disabilities.
What you can do: If your member of the House of Representatives is a Republican, you should contact them ASAP. Virginia’s Republican House members are:
- Rob Wittman (VA-01),
- Jen Kiggans (VA-02),
- John McGuire (VA-05),
- Ben Cline (VA-06), and
- Morgan Griffiths (VA-09)
Of note, Reps. Wittman and Kiggans have publicly expressed their opposition to the House Republican budget bill if it includes any reduction in Medicaid coverage for vulnerable populations. They should be thanked for this position.
Use the AHCA/NCAL Advocacy Action Center to send these representatives a message. (If your member of Congress is not a Republican, you will not be able to send a message.) AHCA/NCAL has written step-by-step instructions on how to:
- Send an email: Contact your US Senators and Representatives urging them to oppose any cuts to Medicaid or reduction in the provider tax. These messages will be directed to their Washington, D.C. offices.
- Make a call: Reach out to your members of Congress at their district offices and share your concerns about the potential impact of Medicaid provider tax reductions.
Important note: Virginia does not have a provider tax on nursing homes. Your message can focus solely on the fact that cuts to Medicaid would be devastating to those who depend on it for their care.
Questions? Contact the AHCA/NCAL Government Relations team with questions or issues utilizing the Action Center.
Other was to be an advocate: Be sure to register now for AHCA/NCAL’s in Washington, D.C. June 9-10, 2025.
- Meeting with and talking to your congressional delegation is the most powerful tool to fend off cuts to Medicaid.
