In Focus: MDS Section B Changes
Over the coming weeks: We will highlight different sections of the MDS Item Sets version 1.18.11 and the draft MDS 3.0 RAI User’s Manual version 1.18.11 issued on April 3, 2023.
- Substantial changes were made to several sections which will have an impact on survey and reimbursement.
- Check out what you need to know about changes to Section B.
Changes to Section B include:
- Incorporation of the Standardized Patient Assessment Data Elements (SPADES).
- Health Literacy, which allows for standardized data collection across all health care settings.
Action for facilities:
- Review the AHCA MDS Section B resource document, which outlines key changes, coding instructions/RAI guidelines for each item, and actions to consider for implementation across your facility.
- Develop a training plan for your facility to ensure all staff impacted by the changes are trained in them.
- Sign up for upcoming VHCA-VCAL programs focused on MDS.
