LTC Vaccination Program Deadline Extended

The deadline for long term care facilities (LTCF) to sign up to participate in the Pharmacy Partnership for Long-Term Care Program has been extended to Friday, November 6. Please don’t wait to register for the federal government’s national vaccine distribution program for LTC residents.

LTCFs must register with the CDC on how they want to receive and administer the COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available. Nursing homes register via NHSN, while assisted living communities and other congregate settings sign up through an online survey.

VDH strongly encourages all LTCFs in Virginia to take advantage of these pharmacy partnerships and it is the agency’s understanding that facilities which are required to report to the National Health Safety Network (NHSN) are required to opt-out of the opportunity if they do not opt-in.

Once vaccination of LTC residents begins, pharmacies will provide vaccine clinics on-site at the nursing home/assisted living over a period of approximately two months in order to vaccinate all residents. The pharmacy will take responsibility for acquiring vaccines and associated supplies (including necessary personal protective equipment), provide cold-chain management for the vaccine, and take responsibility for required vaccine reporting.

A LTCF who opts-in to the CDC Partnership via CVS or Walgreens does not need to register with the VDH provider intent form nor register in the Virginia Immunization Information System (VIIS).
