Over 200 members gathered in Hampton for four days for the 2019 Annual Convention and Trade Show this week. Members spent timing learning about critical clinical and operational issues, elected new leadership, and honored excellence among the Commonwealth’s long term care providers.

A series of great speakers offered attendees the chance to earn 13 hours of NAB-approved continuing education. Keynote speaker highlights included:

• Motivational speaker Amy Dee told attendees not to miss out on laughter and reminded them when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
• Remarks from AHCA/NCAL President and CEO Mark Parkinson.
• The Studer Group’s Senior Director Mitch Hagins offered advice on using behavior based interview questions to hire engaged employees who understand your culture, as well as ways to improve engagement.
• Craig Zablocki used humor to explain the importance of getting out of your comfort zone, not being embarrassed, and being emotionally honest to live a life with a purpose greater than yourself.
• Innovations for Quality Living’s Barbara Speedling, encouraged providers to consider resident preferences and habits because they impact behaviors.

In addition to great education sessions, the Convention also included:

• The annual Trade Show at which over 100 exhibitors spent time discussing their products and services with provider members.
• The Regirer Nursing Scholarship Golf Tournament and Raffle, which raised $40,265 for the Commonwealth Long Term Care Foundation.
• Recognition of the 2019 D.A. “Woody” Brown Award winners and the statewide 2019 Recognition Award Winners.
• Election of the association officers and election of new members of the Board of Directors for the 2020 term.
• The opportunity for participants to earn 13 hours of NAB-approved continuing education.
