VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates. 

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession. 

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of October 26, 2020.  

• 10/26—Participated in AHCA/NCAL’s weekly conference call for state affiliate staff on COVID-19.
• 10/26—Participated in the VDH Vaccine Advisory Workgroup meeting.
• 10/27—The VHCA-VCAL Nurse Scholarship Committee met to evaluate the 2020 scholarship applications.
• 10/28—Attended a virtual meeting with Rep Don Beyer (D-VA-08) hosted by AHCA PAC.
• 10/29—Participated in the standing COVID-19 Long Term Care Task Force meeting.
• 10/29—April Payne co-chaired the VDH Vaccination Advisory Workgroup meeting.
• 10/29—Participated in the VDH Regulatory Advisory Panel meeting discussing nursing home visitation.
• 10/29—Participated in the annual meeting of the Society of Long Term Care Communicators for AHCA/NCAL state affiliate staff.
• 10/30—Attended a virtual meeting with Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA-07) hosted by AHCA PAC.
• 10/30—Hosted a member call on COVID-19 issues.
