VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates. 

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession.

• 12/7—Participated in AHCA/NCAL’s weekly conference call for state affiliate staff on COVID-19.
• 12/7—Participated in the VDH Vaccine Advisory Work Group meeting.
• 12/7—Met with DMAS to discussion nursing homes’ COVID-19 payment reconciliation.
• 12/7—48 individuals attended the Financial Conference webinar on business trends for preparing for the new normal led by Lisa Thomson with Pathway Health Services.
• 12/8—45 individuals attended the Financial Conference webinar on DMAS Medicaid Perspectives led by Chris Gordon, DMAS deputy for finance and technology.
• 12/8—49 individuals attended the Financial Conference webinar on HHS Provider Relief Funds led by Andy Page with Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP.
• 12/8—Participated in the COVID-19 Long Term Care Facility Task Force’s policy/financing workgroup meeting.
• 12/8—Participated in the VDH COVID-19 provider coordination call for long term care stakeholders.
• 12/8—Participated in the monthly CCC Plus nursing facility claims processing calls with Aetna and Virginia Premier.
• 12/8—Participated in the NCAL/AALNA Caring Together Call on the COVID Vaccine.
• 12/8—Participated in the Virginia Long-Term Care Facility Task Force’s  staff. wellness/training and education subcommittee meeting.
• 12/9—Monitored the meeting of the Board of Medical Assistance Services.
• 12/9—Attended a VDH webinar on the COVID-19 vaccine overview/update for healthcare workers.
• 12/9—Participated in the COVID-19 Healthcare Coordination Committee call.
• 12/9—Participated in the monthly CCC Plus nursing facility claims processing call with Magellan.
• 12/9—Participated in AHCA’s COVID-19 update call for constituency councils.
• 12/10—48 individuals attended the Financial Conference webinar on Medicaid reimbursement Sam Phillips and Susan Hickson-Cullum with Walker-Phillips Healthcare Consulting.
• 12/10—38 individuals attended the financial conference webinar on the Reimbursement Outlooks from Washington DC led by AHCA’s Mike Cheek.
• 12/10—Participated in the monthly CCC Plus nursing facility claims processing call with Anthem.
• 12/10—Attended AHCA/NCAL’s webinar on preparing for the COVID-19 vaccine clinics.
• 12/10—Participated in the NCAL state affiliate staff monthly call.
• 12/11—VHCA’s Payment for Services Committee met by Zoom.
• 12/11—Hosted a free member webinar, Making Spirits Bright during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
