Advocacy is a year-round job.
- There’s much more to advocacy than lobbying during the General Assembly session.
- The meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates for our members.
Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of August 12, 2024.
- 8/12—Attended political fundraisers for Sen. Jennifer Boysko (D-Herndon) and Sen. Creigh Deeds (D-Charlottesville).
- 8/13—The VHCA-VCAL Board of Directors held its quarterly meeting.
- 8/13—Attended a political fundraiser for Del. Carrie Coyner (R-Chesterfield).
- 8/13—Tyler’s Retreat at Iron Bridge hosted a facility tour for Sen. Ghazala Hashmi (D-Chesterfield).
- 8/14—Met with representatives from AARP to discuss legislative issues.
- 8/14—The VHCA-VCAL Nurse Scholarship Committee met to evaluate the 2024 scholarship applications.
- 8/15—Attended a meeting of the legislative workgroup looking at issues related to temporary detention orders for individuals with mental illness and neurocognitive disorders.
