VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates. 

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession. 

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of January 13, 2019.

• 1/13—Participated in the weekly AHCA/NCAL legislative conference call for state affiliates.
• 1/13—Met with Del. Carrie Coyner (R-Chesterfield), Martha Mugler (D-Hampton), Chris Runion (R-Rockingham) and Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn (D-Fairfax) to discuss VHCA-VCAL’s legislative priorities.
• 1/13—Met with the Health and Human Resources Subcommittee
• 1/14—Met with Del. Rodney Willet (D-Henrico) to share VHCA-VCAL’s priorities.
• 1/14—Participated in AHCA/NCAL’s Regional Multifacility Member monthly calls.
• 1/14—Attended the Senate Education and Health Committee’s subcommittee on Health meeting.
• 1/14—Participated in the biweekly CCC Plus claims processing conference calls with Aetna and Virginia Premier.
• 1/15—Over 120 participants attended the Unpacking 2019 Survey Results and Strategies for 2020 educational program in Richmond.
• 1/15—Met with Sen. Ghazala Hashmi (D-Chesterfield) and Sen. Jennifer Kiggans (R-Virginia Beach).
• 1/15—Met with DMAS staff to discuss the LTSS Screening legislation.
• 1/16—Participated on NCAL’s Quality Committee call.
• 1/16—Attended the House Health, Welfare and Institutions Committee meeting and its Health Professions subcommittee meeting .
• 1/16—Derrick Kendall hosted Secretary of Health and Human Services as he visited the Lucy Corr dental clinic.
• 1/17—Participated in the Virginia Health Catalyst meeting.
• 1/17—Attended the Senate Education and Health Committee’s Health Professions subcommittee meeting.
