VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates. 

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession. 

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of April 22, 2019.  

• 4/22—Participated in AHCA’s weekly legislative call for state affiliates.
• 4/23—Provided an update on legislation affecting nursing centers and assisted living communities at the Virginia Bar Association’s annual Virginia Health Law Legislative Update event.
• 4/23—Briefed staff from Williamsburg Landing on the PASRR Level 1 screening requirements.
• 4/23—Participated in the biweekly CCC Plus claims processing conference calls with Anthem and Virginia Premier.
• 4/24—Participated in the biweekly CCC Plus claims processing conference calls with Magellan and United.
• 4/24-25—Over 30 participants attended the training session in Fredericksburg on the INTERACT Quality Improvement Program for VHCA-VCAL’s initiative to reduce preventable rehospitalizations.
• 4/25—Participated in the biweekly CCC Plus claims processing conference calls with Aetna and Optima.
• 4/25—Hosted the Assisted Living Stakeholder’s meeting.
• 4/25—Participated in a meeting of the AHCA/NCAL Independent Owners Council.
• 4/26—Attended a meeting of the Board of Long-Term Care Administrators Regulatory Advisory Panel to discuss the Administrator-in-Training process for assisted living and nursing home administrators.
