VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates.

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession.  Take a look at our activities this week:

• 4/5—Participated in the steering committee meeting for the Governor’s Conference on Aging.
• 4/5—Central and Roanoke District leaders met via conference call to set 2016 meeting dates.
• 4/6—Over 50 members attended the monthly education program on medication management and its impact on quality.
• 4/7—Met with representatives from the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) to discuss rebasing issues.
• 4/7—Participated in a meeting hosted by Honoring Choices about advance directive planning.
• 4/7—Participated in a webinar on Why Every Accountable Care Organization (ACO) Needs to Develop Programs to Better Serve their Senior Markets.
• 4/7—Joined the monthly National Center for Assisted Living conference call for state affiliate staff.
• 4/7—Took part in the Assisted Living Facility stakeholder meeting with LeadingAge Virginia and the Department of Social Services.
• 4/7-Tidewater District leaders met via conference call to set 2016 meeting dates.
• 4/8—Hosted the quarterly meeting of the Geriatric Mental Health Partnership.
