VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates.

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession.

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of November 28.   

• 11/28—Met with Sen. George Barker (D-Fairfax) to discuss VHCA-VCAL’s priorities for the 2017 General Assembly session.
• 11/28—Attended the General Assembly’s Certificate of Public Need Reform Work Group meeting.
• 11/29—Met with representatives of the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association (VHHA) to discuss issues related to the 2017 General Assembly session.
• 11/29—VHCA PAC hosted a political fundraiser for Del. John O’Bannon (R-Henrico).
• 11/30—The Convention and Trade Show Committee chaired by Rob Giannini of The Commonwealth Group met to begin planning for 2017.
• 11/30—Took part in the VHHA Allied Healthcare Summit.
• 11/30—Joined the AHCA/NCAL Affiliate Policy Task Force conference call to learn more about resources related to the requirements of participation.
• 12/1—The Payment for Services Committee led by Al Shrieves of Virginia Health Services met to discuss the state budget outlook for Medicaid reimbursement.
• 12/1—Attended a meeting of the Richmond Academy of Medicine’s Honoring Choices program.
• 12/1—Participated in the monthly conference call for NCAL state affiliates.
• 12/1 – Willow Oaks Assisted Living at Birmingham Green hosted the VHCA-VCAL Northern District Meeting where Abigail Barreto, AHCA Public Affairs Director, discussed social media strategies in long term care.
