VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates. 

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession. 

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of February 7, 2022.

• 2/7—Met with Del. Mark Sickles (D-Fairfax) to discuss VHCA-VCAL priorities.
• 2/7—Participated in AHCA/NCAL’s weekly legislative conference call for state affiliate staff.
• 2/8—Attended the meeting of the Health, Welfare, and Institution Committee’s subcommittee #3 to testify on the staffing mandate bills.
• 2/8—Participated in an AHCA/NCAL Quality Improvement Committee call.
• 2/9—Met with DMAS to discuss the distribution of the $5 per day payments to nursing facilities from Virginia’s ARPA funds.
• 2/10—VHCA-VCAL’s Board of Directors held its quarterly meeting.
• 2/10—Participated in the NCAL state affiliate staff monthly call.
• 2/10—Participated in a meeting hosted by DMAS on the Inter-rater Reliability Study (IRR) study.
• 2/10—Monitored the Health, Welfare, and Institution Committee meeting.
• 2/10—Participated in the Virginia Nursing Association’s Access to Mental Health workgroup call.
• 2/11—Participated in a DMAS stakeholder meeting on the agency’s modernization of its Medicaid Management Information Systems.
