Electronic Monitoring Bill Altered

Electronic Monitoring Bill Altered

Security Camera Isolated on WhiteSen. John Cosgrove has removed language from SB553 on electronic monitoring in resident rooms in nursing centers that would have deferred to the pending Board of Health regulations.  As we reported last week, the bill had been amended at the subcommittee level, but Sen. Cosgrove did not offer those amendments to the full committee.

As unanimously reported by the Senate Education and Health Committee, the bill is now a mandate that nursing facilities allow for audiovisual monitoring for a resident in a private room who requests it.  The bill will be up for a vote by the full Senate next week.  VHCA will continue to work with the bill patron, our members, the Department of Health, and members of the House of Delegates as the bill continues its way through the legislative process.
