VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates. 

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession. 

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of February 18, 2019.   

• 2/18—Participated in the weekly AHCA/NCAL legislative update call for state affiliates.
• 2/19—Met with VHHA staff to discuss readmission reduction strategies and plans.
• 2/19—Met with Assistant State Fire Marshal – Special Operations Steven Sites to discuss the Life Safety Code.
• 2/20—Attended the quarterly Virginia State Board of Social Services meeting.
• 2/20—Participated in the monthly meeting of the AHCA Affiliate Policy Task Force.
• 2/21—Participated in the American Society of Health Care Administration Executives (ASHCAE) monthly call.
• 2/22—Shared information with the North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association on the civil monetary grant process in Virginia.
• 2/22—Met with DMAS and to discuss how the Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM) will affect Medicaid and MDS data elements when the RUGs-IV payment model ends.
