VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates.

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession.

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of February 25, 2020.

  • 2/24—Met with Del. Lashreces Aird (D-Petersburg), Del. Karrie Delaney (D-Fairfax), Del. Elizabeth Guzman (D-Prince William), Del. Patrick Hope (D-Arlington), Del. Mark Sickles (D-Fairfax), and Sen. Monty Mason (D-Williamsburg) on SB 686 related to individual service plans for assisted living facility residents.
  • 2/24—Participated in a subcommittee meeting for Working Interdisciplinary Networks of Guardianship Stakeholders (WINGS).
  • 2/24—Met with the Office of Licensure and Certification (OLC) to discuss survey issues.
  • 2/25—Participated in the biweekly CCC Plus nursing facility claims processing calls with Aetna and Virginia Premier.
  • 2/24—Met with Del. Karrie Delaney (D-Fairfax) to discuss VHCA-VCAL’s priorities
  • 2/25—Attended the House Health Welfare and Institution committee meeting.
  • 2/25—Met with DMAS to discuss upcoming changes in the MDS assessment process.
  • 2/25—Met with members of the CCR admissions team to discuss UAIs.
  • 2/27—Met with DMAS to discuss SNF Part A methodology.
  • 2/27—Attended the roundtable hosted by the Virginia Nurses Association on access to mental health.
  • 2/27—Participated in the Virginia Health Catalyst’s 2020 legislative session weekly conference call.
