Medicaid Funding for Nursing Centers

Medicaid Funding for Nursing Centers

Virginia Medicaid

To mitigate the negative impact of the nursing center rebasing, Del. John O’Bannon (R-Henrico) and Sen. Siobhan Dunnavant (R-Henrico) introduced budget amendments on behalf of VHCA-VCAL to increase the peer group prices for direct and indirect care. If approved, the budget amendments would provide nursing centers with funding to invest in their operations and staffing.  It is important to understand, however, that legislators are grappling with a $1.5 billion total budget shortfall, which includes a $654 million deficit for fiscal year 2018, therefore additional spending proposals will receive close scrutiny.

Next week during the Legislative Conference it will be important for you to explain to your legislators how this funding will benefit your residents and the quality of care you can provide at your center.

This proposed funding of approximately $13 million would be in addition to the $10.9 million funding for Medicaid rate increases for FY2018 proposed by Gov. Terry McAuliffe in his budget amendments.
