The federal public health emergency (PHE) has been extended through October 15. DMAS issued a Medicaid Bulletin repeating the news along with links to provider contact information and resources.

The extension became effective July 15, 2022. Officials continue to state that they will provide 60 days’ notice before ending the PHE.

Why it matters: The extension provides the uninterrupted continuation of several flexibilities.

• Continuation of certain 1135 waivers like the:
  • required three-day hospital stay to access skilled nursing benefits and
  • spell of illness.

• Enhanced FMAP to states (6.2 percent) is extended to at least October 30, 2022.
  • The increased FMAP ends in the calendar year quarter in which the PHE ends.

• All state Medicaid flexibilities will continue, including:
  • expedited state plan amendment review; and
  • waiver of Medicaid redetermination requirements.
