Provider Magazine reports the Centers for Disease Control has (CDC) has released the second of its four-part, web-based training series for clinicians, which instructs “on the use of antibiotics to combat antibiotic resistance and improve health care quality and patient safety.”

The new section focuses “on outpatient antibiotic use, inappropriate antibiotic usages, and barriers to appropriate outpatient antibiotic prescribing to identify methods to help clinicians overcome those barriers.”

Per Provider, SNFs particularly “are attuned to the focus on antibiotic stewardship given that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) mandated that SNFs have a trained infection prevention expert on staff by November 2019 under the new Requirements of Participation, and the issue is a major concern for maintaining high-quality care.”
