VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates.

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession.  Take a look at our activities this week:

• 6/20—Met with Paige McCleary, Division for Aging Director at the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitation Services.
• 6/20—At the Roanoke District meeting, associate members Sam Phillips and Susan Hickson-Painter of Walker-Phillips Healthcare Consulting presented “30 Minutes to Better Medicaid Case-Mix Index (CMI) Management”.
• 6/20—Attended a political fundraiser for Sen. Ben Chafin (R-Lebanon).
• 6/21—Attended the Adult Oral Health Coalition meeting.
• 6/21—Attended a political fundraiser for Del. Joseph Yost (R-Blacksburg).
• 6/22—Participated in an AHCA/NCAL webinar for state executives on the National Core Indicators Project for Aging and Disabilities Effort, an initiative of the professional association for the state aging directors.
• 6/22—Participated in the first meeting of Alzheimer’s Assisted Living Waiver Work Group.
• 6/22—The Convention and Trade Show Committee, led by Rob Giannini of The Commonwealth Group, met to discuss plans for the 2016 meeting.
• 6/23—Lyn Bentley, AHCA Vice President of Quality and Regulatory Affairs, spoke at the Northern District meeting hosted by Burke Health and Rehabilitation Center.
• 6/23—Doran Hutchinson, VHCA Vice President of Administration, visited Falls Run Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fredericksburg and Heatherwood Retirement Community in Burke.
• 6/23—Attended an open house at The Laurels of Bon Air.
• 6/23—Participated in a political fundraiser for Sen. Steve Newman (R-Lynchburg).
• 6/24—Matt Mansell, Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs, gave a legislative update at the Central District Meeting hosted by Albemarle Health and Rehabilitation Center.
