VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates. 

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession. 

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of May 10, 2021.

• 5/10—Participated in AHCA/NCAL’s weekly conference call for state affiliate staff on COVID-19.
• 5/10—Participated in the bi-weekly VDH Vaccine Advisory Committee workgroup.
• 5/11—Attended political fundraisers for Del. Charles Poindexter (R-Franklin) and Del. Rodney Willet (D-Henrico).
• 5/11—Keith Hare served as a panelist at the Virginia Bar Association’s Annual Virginia Health Law Legislative Update and Extravaganza.
• 5/11—57 individuals attended the webinar on Attracting the Staff You Want to Apply led by Lou Ann Brubaker with Brubaker Consulting.
• 5/11—Attended political fundraisers for Del Emily Brewer (R-Smithfield) and Del. Lashrecse Aird (D-Petersburg)
• 5/11—Participated in the monthly CCC Plus nursing facility claims processing calls with Aetna and Virginia Premier.
• 5/12—Participated in the monthly CCC Plus nursing facility claims processing call with Magellan.
• 5/13—Participated in the monthly CCC Plus nursing facility claims processing call with Anthem.
• 5/13—50 individuals attended the webinar on Handling Job Applications with No Hiccups led by Lou Ann Brubaker with Brubaker Consulting.
• 5/13—Attended the monthly meeting for AHCA/NCAL state reimbursement specialists.
• 5/13—Met with VDH to discuss the rise in C. auris cases.
• 5/13—Participated in the Virginia Nursing Association’s Access to Mental Health workgroup call.
