VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates. 

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession. 

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of May 11, 2020.  

• 5/11—Participated in AHCA’s weekly legislative conference call for state affiliate staff.
• 5/11—Participated in Virginia Health Catalyst’s Summit planning committee meeting.
• 5/11—Participated in AHCA’s weekly COVID-19 call for state affiliate staff.
• 5/11—Participated in the Virginia Healthcare Workforce Advisory Council – COVID-19 work group meeting.
• 5/12—Participated in a conference call with the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association (VHHA), LeadingAge Virginia, and the Virginia Assisted Living Association (VALA) on COVID-19 coordination between long term care facilities and health systems.
• 5/12—Participated in the COVID-19 Healthcare Coordination Committee call.
• 5/12—Participated in the weekly nursing facility COVID-19 call hosted by DMAS.
• 5/12—Participated in the COVID-19 Healthcare Coordination Committee call.
• 5/12—Met with DMAS to discuss CMP grant opportunities.
• 5/13—Participated in the communications workgroup meeting of the COVID-19 LTC Facilities Task Force.
• 5/13—Participated in the monthly CCC Plus nursing facility claims processing calls with Magellan and United HealthCare.  
• 5/14—Participated in the monthly CCC Plus nursing facility claims processing calls with Anthem and Optima.  
• 5/14—Attended a meeting hosted by the Virginia Nurses Association on access to mental health.
• 5/14—Attended the meeting of the Testing Advisory Council.
• 5/15—Attended a meeting of the care transitions work group meeting of the COVID-19 LTC Facilities Task Force.
• 5/15—Hosted the weekly member conference call on COVID-19.
