VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates. 

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession. 

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of October 29, 2018.  

• 10/29—VHCA PAC hosted a political fundraiser for Del. Chris Peace (R-Hanover)
• 10/30—Over 120 attendees participated in the 2018 MDS Updates education program in Williamsburg.
• 10/30—Participated in a political fundraiser for Sen. Louise Lucas (D-Portsmouth).
• 10/30—Participated in the biweekly CCC Plus nursing facility claims processing call with Aetna.
• 10/31—Met with Anthem to discuss ongoing CCC Plus claims issues.
• 10/31—Attended a meeting with Governor Northam’s policy staff to discuss modifications to reimbursement policy.
• 11/1-11/2—Judy Wilhide Brandt led the MDS Basic Part I Workshop for new MDS coordinators.
• 11/1—Participated in the quarterly Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) conference call hosted by NCAL to exchange ideas and updates on HCBS among the state affiliates.
• 11/1—Participated in NCAL’s monthly conference call with state affiliate staff to discuss current issues in the assisted living profession.
• 11/2—Met with officials from DMAS and United to discuss ongoing CCC Plus issues.
