VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates.

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession.

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of November 14.

• 11/14—Hosted over 240 attendees at the Jump Starting Phase 1 of the Requirements of Participation education program.
• 11/15—The VCAL Committee met at the VHCA-VCAL office to discuss various regulatory issues and strategic plan initiatives.
• 11/16—Participated in a meeting with the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association to discuss readmissions.
• 11/16—Brandon Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center hosted the Roanoke District meeting where Charles de Vilmorin, CEO with Linked Senior, Inc. discussed CMS focused dementia survey tools.
• 11/17—Attended the House Appropriations Committee meeting.
• 11/17—Joined the CMS Skilled Nursing Facilities/Long Term Care Open Door Forum.
• 11/17—Attended a political fundraiser for the House Democratic Caucus.
• 11/18—Met with Secretary of Finance Ric Brown and representatives of the Department of Planning and Budget and the Health and Human Resources Secretariat to discuss Medicaid budget issues.
