VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates. 

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession. 

Take a look at our outreach and advocacy work for the week of October 4, 2021.  

• 10/5—Monitored the meeting of the Joint Commission on Health Care at which the report on nursing facility workforce challenges was released.
• 10/5—Participated in a discussion hosted by AHCA/NCAL and the International Rescue Committee on Afghan refugees.
• 10/5—Attended a virtual political event featuring Democratic candidate for governor Terry McAuliffe.
• 10/5—Attended a political fundraiser for Del. Bobby Orrock (R-Caroline County).
• 10/5—Participated in a meeting hosted by VDH on staffing challenges in long term care facilities.
• 10/6—Attended a political fundraiser for Del. Matt Farriss (R-Campbell County).
• 10/7—Attended the monthly NCAL state affiliate staff call.
• 10/8—Hosted a virtual meet-and-greet for Republican candidate for governor Glenn Youngkin and the VHCA-VCAL Board of Directors.
• 10/8—Attended a political fundraiser for Speaker of the House of Delegates Eileen Filler-Corn (D-Fairfax).
• 10/8—Met with leaders of August Healthcare.
