VHCA-VCAL’s advocacy work on behalf of long term care providers is a year-round job.  While the General Assembly session may get most of the attention, the meetings and outreach we conduct with legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders beyond session can have lasting impact on our ability to be effective advocates.

We’ll be using this space to highlight VHCA-VCAL staff and leadership’s participation in meetings and events that are critical to the profession.  Take a look at our activities this week:

• 9/26—Attended a political fundraiser for Del. Luke Torian (D-Prince William).
• 9/27—Attended the Commonwealth Coordinated Care / Medicaid Long Term Services and Supports (CCC/MLTSS) Advisory Stakeholders Committee Meeting hosted by the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS).
• 9/27—Hosted a meeting of long term care stakeholders to discuss reducing unnecessary antipsychotic medications for residents.
• 9/27—Steve Ford provided an update on the CCC and MLTSS programs at the Western District Meeting.
• 9/27—Hosted the Geriatric Mental Health Partnership meeting.
• 9/28—Attended a meeting of the Honoring Choices Virginia initiative looking at barriers providers face in effectively sharing advance care planning documents.
• 9/28—The VHCA-VCAL Central District met at Augusta Nursing and Rehab Center to hear an update on the Life Safety Code from representatives of the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
• 9/28—Participated in the CMS national provider call on value-based purchasing for skilled nursing facilities.
• 9/28—Took part in the AHCA webinar on Discharge to Community: Creating Seamless Transitions.
• 9/29—Participated in a subcommittee meeting for the 2017 Virginia Governor’s Conference on Aging.
• 9/29—Attended the CCC Evaluation Advisory Committee meeting at DMAS.
• 9/29—The VHCA-VCAL Northern District met at Sunrise at Fair Oaks to hear an update on the Life Safety Code from representatives of the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
• 9/29—Attended a political fundraiser for Del. Patrick Hope (D-Arlington).
• 9/30—The VHCA-VCAL Richmond District met at McKesson Medical Surgical to hear a presentation from Cil Bullard, RAI/OASIS Coordinator for The Office of Licensure and Certification on the October 1 MDS updates.
