Four Members Recognized for Progress in Quality of Long Term Care

The AHCA/NCAL recognized four Virginia assisted living communities for their achievements through its Quality Initiative Recognition Program, which honors member facilities for their individual work in achieving AHCA/NCAL Quality Initiative goals.

The NCAL Quality Initiative Recognition Program recognizes achievement in meeting the following four goals:

  • Staff Stability: direct care staff turnover is 50% or less
  • Customer Satisfaction: 90% or more of residents and/or family members are satisfied with their experience
  • Hospital Readmissions: readmissions within 30 days of hospital discharges are 20% or less
  • Antipsychotics: off-label use of antipsychotics is 15% of residents or less

Brandon Oaks Assisted Living achieved progress in three of the four Quality Initiative goals. The following three communities were recognized for meeting one goal: Friendship Assisted Living, Inc., Joseph C. Thomas Center, and The Oaks. Only 381 assisted living communities were recognized nationwide.

“It is terrific to see providers taking their quality goals seriously. Their efforts show their commitment to providing the best care for their residents,” said Keith Hare, president and CEO of VHCA-VCAL.

“This achievement represents progress on important quality measures that will positively impact the lives of residents,” said Dr. David Gifford, senior vice president of quality and regulatory affairs and chief medical officer for the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL). “We applaud these organizations for their hard work and dedication to this significant quality improvement effort.”

About the Quality Initiative

Launched in 2012 by AHCA/NCAL, the Quality Initiative serves as a national effort to build upon the existing work of the long term and post-acute care profession. The Initiative aims to further improve quality of care in skilled nursing centers and assisted living communities by challenging member facilities to meet measurable goals in areas such as hospital readmissions, off-label use of antipsychotics, and customer satisfaction.

Learn more about the goals for nursing facilities and assisted living facilities under the AHCA/NCAL Quality Initiative Recognition Program. Program achievers will be honored at AHCA/NCAL’s upcoming Quality Summit in Grapevine, TX, on March 10, 2020.
