A new report by Seniorly shows that among the 200 most expensive cities for assisted living, 17 are located in Virginia. Virginia also has three cities on the list of most affordable cities for AL.

• California, the largest state, has 28 of the highest-cost cities, followed by Minnesota (20 cities). Washington ties Virginia with 17 cities.

By the numbers: On the overall ranking of AL affordability across the 50 states, Virginia was ranked 26^th with an average monthly cost for AL of $4,169. This average cost has dropped eight percent between 2021 and 2023.

About the list: Seniorly, the leading marketplace for senior living, analyzed the average monthly rent in assisted living facilities across 782 U.S. cities and towns in order to determine the most and least expensive cities for assisted living in 2024.

• Seniorly used real-time 2024 move-in data from across the company’s network of 60,000 senior living communities and calculated estimated pricing for all communities using zip code, community size and cost of living.
