Kiggans, Wittman Back Medicaid

What’s happening: Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-VA-02) and Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA-01) publicly announced their opposition to the House Republican budget bill if it includes any reduction in Medicaid coverage for vulnerable populations.

  • These members of the Virginia delegation joined 10 other House Republicans in sending a letter to their leadership expressing concern about threats to Medicaid funding.

Why it matters: Republicans hold a slim majority in the US House of Representatives. If the 12 representatives who signed on to the letter vote against the budget reconciliation bill, it likely will not pass as Democrats are also expected to vote against it.
